04.22.2010 // by: Alison

Some of you may remember our very first Local Spotlight video with Ricardo Morris, who helped organize the first East Chattanooga Day of Service. This weekend you can participate in their second annual clean-up!

The East Chattanooga Weed and Seed and the Chattanooga Eastside Taskforce are partnering with area churches and community organizations for the 2nd Annual Day of Service this Saturday, April 24.

Last year’s inaugural Day of Service yielded over 47,700 participants with over 223,000 man-hours donated. Over 2000 volunteers are expected to lend a hand in this Day of Service.

A variety of service projects will be available for all ages and skill levels and include painting and sprucing up local daycares, nursing homes and public schools, graffiti eradication, and landscaping.

To participate, head to Parkridge Medical Center any time from 8am – 2pm to get registered. A festive closing ceremony will take place at 3pm. Please bring tools and painting materials if possible, like: paint brushes, paint rollers, paint buckets, paint roller pans, drop cloths, ladders, rakes, hoes, hedge clippers, saws, screwdrivers, hammers, general tools, gloves.
